+portals by lynne stephanie rutherford+
Everything is made up of some combination of colors and shapes or shapes and colors. This long standing relationship between seemingly separate entities is blurred and abstracted in Lynne Rutherford’s solo exhibition, Portals. Using various ingenious methods of dyeing and painting large swaths of fabric, Rutherford has created the depth of an entire universe in each of her pieces, inviting viewers to get lost gazing upon the fiery hues and serene tones. Portals will be on view through Friday, September 29th, with a reception on Thursday, September 28th, at 77 E 3rd St.Â

+by all means: figure drawing (9.19)+
We saw, we danced, we drew. A truly magical evening at 119 Hester Street with old friends and new ones. The night started with a little wine and a short tutorial on how to draw the figure, and then transitioned into a dreamlike state of music-listening and art-making. It’s been confirmed, there is no better way to spend two hours. There may not have been dancing in the conventional sense, but you’ll have to come to our next session to find out. (Form to sign up: 10/3)
+sunday salon (9.24)+
Words were spoken, feelings were shared, there were many rounds of applause and even more snaps in approval. Poets, scientists, and thinkers of various disciplines and worlds converged on a rainy night in Chinatown to be among friends and strangers. The cozy intimacy of the salon’s reading portion was followed by an awe-inspiring performance by Feral Romance who electrified the crowd into a rhythmic trance with much movement and gyration. Sunday salon will be back on October 22nd at All Street’s 119 Hester Street location. Hope to see you there :) Â

+tuesday talks (9.26)+
Aliens are amongst us! Lane Banning, the flight director of Moon Studios, the intergalactically known record label and creative agency based in Greenpoint, will be regaling the Tuesday Talks community with stories of his space travel and interdimensional music-making. Fly through All Street’s 119 Hester Street tonight at 7pm!
+by all means: yoga (9.29)+Â
Friday’s full moon will be ringing in spooky season, so All Street will be celebrating the celestial shifts with some physical exertion and mental meditation. This Friday, come on by 119 Hester Street for our first-ever yoga class led by the multihyphenate Maggie Weiler. The class will be donation-based and there will be tea, snacks, and an abundance of good vibes available, as well.

are you listening? are out there? I could really use an ear to bend or a shoulder to lean a helping hand or maybe just a friend?

i see my friends at school, at home, on screens, on phones. i see my friends as virtual clones, one click and i’m not alone. i see my friends on a bus, in a car, across the street, from afar. i see my friends in rectangles and squares, after class on the stairs. i see my friends in pictures, in clips, as little faces, i click. as long as i have wifi there, i see my friends everywhere.

You: had a new yorker tote
Me: had a zabar's tote
Description:
We were both looking at the bananas. There was a joke to be made, but I couldn’t come up with one fast enough. I peel like we could be a good pair :) Â

You: have hands that work on behalf of god
Me: ready to worship at your altar
Description:
I long for you to caress my soul the way your fingers gently gripped those soft pieces of charcoal. As your hand left streaks of smoky wonder on the newsprint, you too left a permanent mark on my heart.     Â

You: run in the sceneÂ
Me: prefers not to be seen
Description:Â
Our friends were talking and just assumed we knew each other. We do, but we’ve never officially met. We’re in the same space a lot, but haven’t really interacted beyond a nod or toothless smile in familiar recognition. We don’t follow each other on IG, but I watch your stories a lot. I wonder if you notice?

You give up on things too easily. Open your messages. Scroll all the way down to the very bottom of your text conversations and send whoever that person is your three most frequently used emojis. Words fail but emotional icons don't.Â

Be yourself, no one likes a faker. Unless you’re famous. In that case, do whatever it takes to keep those views up because without them you’ll be nothing. Â

Some people say going down rabbit holes is a waste of time, but look at Alice – they made a movie about her. And while time may be fleeting, movies are forever.Â

Many of us are very fine. Others are very fried. But only a select few are verified and it’s time you accept that you probably never will be.Â

If everyone is an influencer then there will be no one left to influence and the influential will become the influenced. So now only one question remains: will you live above or below the influence?

The screen is a reflection of the eyes which are the window to the soul and you know what they say about broken mirrors. So buy a case to avoid strife, but would you rather wear a helmet all your life or feel the breeze through your hair for one magical night?Â
